Horticulture Specimen Classes

CLASS 16 Hybrid Teas, Grandifloras or Their Climbing Counterparts

One (1) bloom per stem, at exhibition stage, naturally grown or disbudded. Eligible for Gold, Silver and Bronze ARS Certificates.

CLASS 17 Single Hybrid Tea

One (1) bloom per stem or spray of two or more blooms. Each bloom shall have from 5 to12 petals. Eligible for ARS Certificate.

A spray of two (2) or more blooms per stem, with or without side buds. Varieties which typically have blooms with 12 or fewer petals may NOT be entered in this class. Eligible for ARS Certificate.

CLASS 21 Fully Open Bloom Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora and Their Climbing Counterparts

CLASS 22 Species Roses

One (1) bloom per stem or spray of any rose designated as species (Sp) in the most recent issue of the ARS Handbook for Selecting Roses. This is accordance to the new classification system. Some cultivators previously exhibited in competition for the Dowager Queen Award or the Classic Shrub Award will, instead, be eligible for the ARS Genesis Award.

CLASS 23 Old Garden Rose (known to be introduced prior to 1867)

One (1) stem, one or more blooms per stem. Side buds permitted. This class includes Hybrid Kordesii (HKor), Hybrid Musk (HMsk), Hybrid Rugosa (HRg) and Hybrid Moyesii (HMoy). Eligible for ARS Certificate. Dorris Oesterreich Ballerina

CLASS 26 Modern Shrub

One (1) stem, one or more blooms per stem. Side buds permitted. This any variety designated as Shrub (S) only. Eligible for ARS Certificate. Bill Carlson Starry Night

CLASS 27 Large-flowered Climbers (LCI) and Hybrid Wichuranas (HWich)

CLASS 28 Polyantha

One (1) spray of two or more blooms. Eligible for ARS Certificate.

Horticulture Novice Specimen Classes

Note: A novice exhibitor is an individual who has not won more than 5 blue ribbons in an ARS accredited show. The best entry from Classes 33, 34 and 35 will be awarded the ARS Best Novice Certificate.

CLASS 34 Novice Hybrid Teas, Grandifloras, and Their Climbing Counterparts

One (1) bloom per stem, grown naturally or disbudded. Eligible for Special Merit Certificate. Katelyn Haase Artistry Non-Member Award - A novice exhibitor winning a first place ribbon, who is not amember of any rose society, shall receive an honorary membership in the Indianapolis Rose Society for the remaining months of the year.

CLASS 35 Novice Floribundas or Polyanthas and Their Climbing Counterparts

One (1) bloom per stem floribunda or naturally grown floribunda or polyantha spray of two or more blooms. Eligible for Special Merit Certificate.
